Can anyone recommend a fitness program for balanced cardio & muscle building?
I’m thinking of doing couch to 10k and a general program like squats/sit-ups concurrently.

Day 3-8
T Minus ???Sorry to have disappeared so soon guys, just to explain I’ve had a bit of a family crisis (my dad has serious cancer) and so I’ve a) deferred my cycling trip to 2014 and b) not really had time to eat anything other than junk food or work out. However, as of today I’m back at uni and wanting to change that.
I still really want to get fit, because, frankly, I need a project to work on right now. Need to find some programs like couch to 5k I can follow at the same time as each other - if you know of any please suggest them!

Picture on the left: March 2012
Picture on the right: May 2013I have fallen off track a couple of times, and my progress has been slow, but there is progress there. Hopefully a photo of next year will show more progress than this!
…definitely didn’t post this to the wrong blog. Awkward.

Day 2 wasn’t all that great. I was manically busy - I didn’t go home between 8am and 11pm, and ended up coming home from clubbing early because I didn’t feel well.
I didn’t manage to get time to exercise and didn’t eat too healthily, which is a bit of a blow but it’s just a set back, I promise.I ate: a bacon sandwich on brown bread, a vegetable bake and some flapjack. I drank: two 550ml bottles of coke, 4 pints of “purple” (strongbow, cider, ribena), 2 pints of Carling and water.
I need to drink more water.

Day one photos: if you look at my photos from the very, very beginning of this blog, I’ve maintained a decent amount of progress, but these are the new “starting photos” for my latest attempt. (I’ll make a side-by-side comparison post in a sec)
I’ll mostly be building endurance in the next few weeks so progress is likely to be a very long term thing in demonstratable terms. -
Day 1
T-Minus 53 till Cycle.
I’ve decided to take a photo every day, because I’m vein like that.
Today is the first day of me getting fitter for my ride and I’ve basically decided to format this blog like this: 1) daily picture and food diary, 2) recording workouts as and when I do them. Hopefully this will help me keep track of what I’m doing in general with my body.Today I ate: grapes (unknown quantity) salad x 2 (lettuce, cucumber, pizza express house dressing) pasta salad x 1 (100g pasta, lettuce, cucumber, pizza express house dressing) fab x 1 and drank water and maybe 3 cups of Dr Pepper. I really need to cut down on that.
In terms of workout I did a “quick fitness challenge” (a minute jogging on the spot, a minute squats, a minute bicycle crunches, 45 seconds plank, a minute side bends, 25 seconds rest, a minute wall-sit) and am about to go on a “Week 3, Day 1” run of a 14 week Couch-to-10k programme. You’re obviously meant to start at week one but, frankly, I don’t have 14 weeks so I’m going to try and jump-start it.
How was your workout, guys?
EDIT: Did the run and it was surprisingly ok. Found it tougher towards the end and sweated a bit but was definitely manageable. Hopefully will improve throughout the weeks!

Mr. Bandwagon
In 54 days, I cycle to Paris.
I have never been less ready for anything in my entire life. I am somewhat on top of my fundraising, but behindon fitness.Don’t get me wrong, I’m comfortable in my skin.
I’m not, y’know, happy with how I look, but I’m comfortable. I like myself - I think I’m witty enough that I can get away with a little bit of flab. I don’t feel like I need to impress anyone with how I look at the moment.
I’m comfortable in my skin, and I think that’s what causes me to fall off the fitness band wagon so often. I forget the initial motivation and think “but I’m happy as I am”, rather than “I could be happier/healthier/live longer”.But this time is different. This time there’s an obstacle to overcome.
I am not fit enough to cycle to Paris. But I will be in 54 days time at the latest. If you want to stick around for me to prove it, follow/continue to follow me.I’m back on the bandwagon. I want to get fitter and this time I have a challenge. Starting photos etc to come.
